What are Skill Coaching Sessions?

One of the core ideas we have built our studio on is to deliver highly technical material in a group class setting while still getting fit and having fun! We knew it was possible – martial arts schools and gymnastics clubs have done it forever, but in the fitness world we saw the opposite trend.

The fitness world seemed obsessed with taking complex movement styles (like boxing, martial arts, weightlifting, or calisthenics) and simplifying them for accessibility.

This had the wonderful effect of introducing more people to these styles of exercise but also had a major drawback.

In order to drop the “skill floor” (the barrier that stops people starting because of a lack of acquired skill) the “skill ceiling” (the level to which you can progress skills) was dropped as well, resulting in people losing the connection between the basics they were learning, and the more aspirational movements they could progress to if only they had someone guiding them.

Our Group Classes were created as a reaction to that trend. Each one is skill-based, the patterns and cueing we use ensure for a strong foundation for higher-level bodyweight movements, and while the work we do in our Group Classes is always done in a way to condition for higher-order movements, there IS still a ceiling. And that’s where Skill Sessions come in.

Skill Coaching Sessions

Skill development is a huge part of what we do and why we think bodyweight training is such a rewarding way to exercise and stay fit.

Skill Sessions allow us to focus on particular skills and really go deep. Conditioning drills, Pattern Drills, Endurance, Strength, Repetition. Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect Practice makes perfect. And that is what we are going to do in our Skill Sessions.

You’ll be in a small class, between 3-6 people, who may not be at the exact level you are, but you’ll be united by the same goal, all working together and drawing inspiration from each other, with a Coach to make sure you’re doing it right!

Skill sessions are not necessarily just for advanced students, but for those who are focused, who want something, and are willing to work to get it. If you’re unsure whether they are for you, reach out to us for a chat and we can help guide you!
